Hello, my name is Dan Carroll and I write songs. I reside on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia where I also work a day job and raise two great kids with my wife.
I was introduced to the magic of music as a teenager. I largely have my Dad to thank for that. It was he who took me to gigs, many in pubs, from the age of fifteen. He also delivered me to a 45-minute guitar lesson after school every Friday for four years.
I idolised guitarists such as Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Buddy Guy and Clapton. I was quickly consumed by music, day in day out. As I developed I began song writing and soon my world expanded, opened up to the power of words and music. Twenty-five years later and nothing much has changed.
I’ve played in bands since I was sixteen and written hundreds of songs. I’ve recorded in excess of 60 of those. I’ve independently released music since 2001, on tape, CD, vinyl and digitally.
The experience of performing live in a band is like nothing else in this world, like another dimension, it’s difficult to convey. Equally, the challenge, process, teamwork and trust required to document, record and realise a song in the studio is equally euphoric.
Without fame and without fortune I continue to write songs, as a challenge, as therapy. Through song I’m connected to other creatives who equally choose to create, to travel the path that can at times offer hope, recognition and fulfilment and equally feel like failure, like a burden. Like many others I cannot help but to write and create. You take the good, manage the bad and be thankful for the space it offers.
I’ve maintained a keen interest in the music business, largely from the outside looking in. As time passes I’m less inclined to play the game. Personally, and financially I can’t afford it. I’ve too much to live for.
Half a lifetime ago I graduated from University and embarked on a career as a Journalist. It proved short lived as I was gripped by the magic of music. Over the years I’ve maintained a keen interest in the written word and through this website I’ll offer my music in audio and written fashion. I will also introduce thoughts, ideas and interviews with creative souls I know. The creative path is unique, inspiring and largely taken by those of genuine intent and here I plan to shed some light.
Thanks for stopping by. I’d love to hear your music, your thoughts on music and any ideas you have to contribute to the developing content on my website. Please reach out through the contact page above.
Till then
